SATURDAY’S HOT INSIDER CARD SHOWS THERE’S MORE TO BOXING THAN THE BIG NAMES AND PAY PER VIEW

One of the notable things about cards like the one released this Saturday night at the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Atlantic City is that fans, both in person and online, can see some of the future stars of the sport. Indeed, this weekend’s event from Boxing internal promotion features a host of undefeated fighters from various weight classes such as heavyweight Pryce Taylor, welterweight Avious Griffin and junior middleweight Justin Figueroa. There will also be boxing royalty at the Tropicana as legendary former heavyweight titlist Larry Holmes will be attending the event, lending a stamp of authenticity to the event.

Those of us who are fans of the sport know how the smaller cards can often make up the heart and soul of the sport. I remember being nine or ten years old in Waterbury, Connecticut, and my dad playing smaller Top Rank cards every Thursday night during my ESPN childhood. Al Bernstein is the face of the broadcasting group, and it’s interesting to wonder how far this or that particular talent will advance. Movie schedule ShoBox the show is a more recent example of effectively airing smaller fights that feature people arriving and vets in foul moods.

And now Boxing Insider is following that path. Who knows what future greatness may arise from Saturday’s card?
