Although the April 15 superfight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia is STILL unsigned, Garcia is acting as if the match is really coming to an end – which comforts fans. looking forward to a big game. Talk to exaggerated fighting, Garcia looked comfortable not only talking about Davis but also talking about his own future plans. “I’m trying to finish it at 26,” he said of his boxing career. “Like I said, titles mean less to me now. There are so many trophies on offer, I almost lost all fire to get one.”
What Garcia says he wants, however, is to fight the biggest names in his peer group. “Okay, let’s put the big names in there now,” he said. “Let’s fight Lomachenko, let’s fight Gervonta Davis, fight Devin Haney, let’s continue those battles now.” It was the battles, more than the title belts, that Garcia wanted to be identified with. “It’s my legacy,” he said, “(but) everyone has their own way.” The question now is whether Garcia can take part in those big fights. After all, the Garcia-Davis battle has yet to be officially announced.
However, Garcia appears in the video with confidence. “Can you name a fighter who fought people in their infancy and defeated them?” he asks. “There will be one. It will be me.” One of the things that draws people to the boxer is not only his winning resume and internet charm, but also his expansive ambitions. Unlike other leading names in contemporary boxing, Garcia is not satisfied with his victory. He’s a guy with something to prove.
The man will have quite a few challenges ahead of him if the fight with Davis ends. Like Garcia, Davis is young, famous, undefeated and possesses the power to tear down a brick wall. However, Garcia made it clear that Davis was not as beloved as the man might think. “He’s a draw,” Garcia admitted before adding: “I’m saying you’re not a bigger star than I am.” However, Garcia wasn’t the one to downplay Davis’ fighting skills. “However, he is a talented boxer,” said Davis of Davis. “He exploded. He will also make this fight bigger. The simple fact is that Garcia-Davis is a match well worth the wait. Let’s just hope it comes true.
