Make no mistake – Ryan Garcia is an interesting guy. In an excellent interview with Noah Beck, the 23-year-old undefeated lightweight gave insight not only into his future plans but also into his overall personality. “Every battle could be my last,” he said. “I am ready to die in it. I’m ready to go out with my shield.” Californians continue on spiritual matters. “I had to go into mode like I was ready to die,” he said of going into a pro match. “I need to be right with God. I need to be right with everything.”

As a social media celebrity, Garcia points out that there are both pros and cons to being famous online. “It gives me freedom so I don’t have to despair over fights,” he said. “I make enough money outside of the ring.” On the other hand, Garcia added that “the downside is people don’t give me any credit for what I do.” And he wants to be recognized for his achievements. “I will prove that I am the best fighter in my weight class,” he asserted.

And the length of time he was away from the ring? Boxing is a dangerous sport, he argues, and that one must be in top physical, psychological and emotional state to reduce the risk of injury – or worse. “I have decided to take a break to recover my mental health,” he said of the challenging time following his January 2021 game against Luke Campbell. “Obviously I decided to take that break, but I feel great.” Now the boxer known as “King Ry” says he is ready to return. “What happens to me in 2022,” he said, “is that I have to seriously focus on finishing at least three games this year. I can’t really worry about whether I’m making money on social media and all that because if I’m a great boxer, the money will come in. ”

And so “King Ry” looks set to return as a force.

“I am picking up where I left off,” he said. “I will come back strong, (and) strong, and when those kills come, I assure you everyone will be quiet and it will be like nothing happened.” So when can the lightweight high profile return to the ring? “My career started on April 2,” says Garcia. “It had to be in LA or Las Vegas. Most likely Vegas. ”
