Runner dies at Brooklyn Half Marathon


An RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon runner died Saturday morning, and 15 others were taken to the hospital, the Fire Department said, as potentially record-setting warm weather flooded the City. New York.

Four of the hospitalized patients were in serious condition, although their injuries were not considered life-threatening, while the others suffered minor injuries, the department said.

Temperatures were in the 60s lows when the half-marathon began at 7 a.m. on Saturday, and rose to the 70s lows at 11 a.m., when the Fire Department announced the death. During the first hours of the race, the relative humidity was more than 95 percent, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to rise throughout the afternoon, potentially peaking at 93 degrees in Central Park, a record high for the day.
