The Borad of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) All India Senior Selection Committee on Thursday selected the team name for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies. Rohit Sharma will take the lead while Virat Kohli and Jasosystem Bumrah are not in the lineup. KL Rahul made a quick comeback after being sidelined with injury last month. However, his integration is dependent on fitness. Veteran crank Ravichandran Ashwin has also been recalled, while foot swinger Yuzvendra Chahal is not on the team. PTI news agency reports that Kohli and Bumrah have both been laid off for the series, although there is no mention of the same in the BCCI release and tweet.
Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are all members of the T20I team for the upcoming series against the West Indies. The five-match T20I series against the West Indies will begin on July 29. There will be a three-match ODI series that will be played before the T20I matches, starting on July 22.
Kuldeep Yadav has also been included in the squad, but his presence also depends on fitness. Speed runner Umran Malik was not part of the team while left arm runner Arshdeep Singh was named for the T20Is.
Previously, the line-up for the ODI series against the West Indies was named and the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Jasionary Bumrah were all rested. Veteran scorer Shikhar Dhawan will lead the team in the ODIs.
All eyes will be on the performances of young players Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh, based on the chances they get, as the players try and claim their place in the ICC squad. T20 World Cup, will take place in Australia in October-November.
KL Rahul’s return from injury will be crucial as India will look to take its top spots.
Kohli has struggled with late form and also missed India’s first ODI against England due to a groin strain. His participation in the 2nd ODI later today is also suspected due to injury.
