Reviewed: Tatcha’s The Texture Tonic Exfoliating Treatment

Tatcha Texture Tonic contains fruit alpha-hydroxy acids derived from a variety of fruits such as apple, orange, citrus and jujube fruit extracts, which help remove dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth. It also has niacinamide and Japanese mugwort, which help tighten pores and even skin tone (hello, exactly what I needed). The antioxidant wild rose also helps to tighten pores and oil production. To my surprise, Tatcha was different from most exfoliants I’ve tried in the past. First, the fact that it’s called a tonic is unique, as many of the toners I’ve used are called tonics and generally don’t have an exfoliating aspect (except for Pixi’s) Glowing tonic $18). Aside from the texture, my concern is whether it helps to tighten pores. (My enlarged pores are basically a leather version of my Achilles heel.)

I started using it every night after washing my face, then gradually moved on to daily use. However, I don’t think slowing down is really necessary compared to other exfoliants due to the mild and gentle formula. Tatcha suggests applying a few drops and sweeping over the skin (rather than pressing it) for an effective exfoliation. Also, unlike other chemical exfoliants, I don’t have to wait to apply my next products (currently Tatcha’s). Essence treatment $105 La Mer’s Regenerative Serum $385).
