Reviewed: Byredo Vanille Antique | Who wears what?

Both Santal 33 and Baccarat Rouge have dominated New York City’s fragrance matrix for quite some time. Lately, however, I’ve noticed a new scent popping up more and more in the city — and I think it’s on its way to becoming ubiquitous.

That scent is none other than Byredo’s Vanille Antique, an extension of the brand’s Night Veils collection. These perfumes are made for the “rite of the night” and all of them concentrate raw materials in their most beautiful form.

Vanille Antique focuses on — you guessed it — vanilla. However, unlike most scents that focus on vanilla, Vanille Antique is not at all sweet or smoky. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. This fragrance is vanilla at its purest – it’s smoky, warm, and intense. It makes sense that it is gaining momentum in the city as it follows the same kind of fragrance formula as Santal 33 and Baccarat Rouge: woody, amber, light florals and a well-known ingredient. (For Santal 33 and Baccarat Rouge, it’s cardamom and saffron, respectively. For Vanille Antique, it’s vanilla.)

This scent hasn’t been around long enough to gain complete domination, but it’s quickly arrived. Just like its predecessors, it is recognizable but different from everyone else. It’s completely hypnotizing and — trust me — well worth the money based on compliments per wear alone.
