Phone cameras have become significantly advanced in the last few years, especially as we’ve seen some impressive advances in computational photography that help offset the downsides of their small sensors. Sony’s new Xperia 1 IV takes it even further as the first phone with optical zoom, and this excellent video review looks at the kind of performance and picture quality you can expect from it.

As the company’s flagship phone, the Xperia 1 IV comes with an impressive array of features like 5G, 4K OLED display, etc., but it’s its camera array that excites photographers and filmmakers . The phone has three cameras, 12-megapixel 16mm ultra-wide angle, 24mm 12-megapixel wide-angle and 12-megapixel 85-125mm telephoto, the first optical zoom in a camera phone. It also borrows the a9’s autofocus system, is capable of 10-bit raw, offers 20 fps continuous bursts, and has a 3D iToF sensor for better bokeh simulation. All lenses have Zeiss optics and coatings.
