Coming to you from Dustin Abbott, this excellent video review introduces the new Venus Optics Laowa 58mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO lens. Designed for mirrorless cameras, the 58mm f/2.8 2x lens is available for Sony E, Canon R, Nikon Z and L mount versions. With its APO design, this lens is specially built to reduce minimize chromatic aberration and it’s definitely visible. In addition, it offers three Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) and three Extra-High Refractive Index elements for high levels of sharpness, along with a 13-blade aperture for exceptionally smooth bokeh. Furthermore, it weighs only 595 g (21 oz) and is 117 mm (4.6 inches) long, making it quite portable. This lens focuses manually only, but with the manual focus assist of modern mirrorless cameras, that’s not as much of an issue as it used to be.
