Rescuers found ‘pile of cats’ and owners living in the condemned house
In one case of severe abandonment, dozens of cats were rescued from a convict home in Indiana after being found living in “bad” conditions.
Officials in Muncie, Indiana were alerted to possible animal neglect and called the Humane Society of the United States for assistance.
Based on The Humane Society, their Animal Rescue and Response team assisted the Muncie Police Department in investigating the possibility of neglect and discovered a terrifying sight.
The “cats” were found living in the house with their own filth. Manure covered the floors, walls and even the bed the owners of the cats slept in. The indoor conditions were unsafe for people or animals and the house was condemned.
The residents of the house willingly surrendered to the cats and some were immediately taken to the emergency room. Many cats that are friendly and eager for attention also suffer from upper respiratory tract infections, skin conditions, and trauma. They are also very thin.
Once the assessment was complete, all cats were moved to a temporary shelter for ongoing treatment and care until they were ready to be adopted.
The CEO and president of the Humane Society of America, Kitty Block, speak, “These cats are suffering — I have never seen animals living in conditions like this before. Walking around, you have to be careful not to slip in the layers of rubbish. These cats are gentle, sweet, and crave attention.”
Munice Cheif Nathan Sloan Police Department agreed with her views, saying, “This is one of the worst animal cases and most pitiable living conditions I’ve seen in 20 years of enforcement. his law.”
We are so grateful that all the cats were rescued from these terrible, abandoned conditions! Hopefully their former owners get the help they need, too.
