Requiem, out October 18 – PlayStation.Blog

Hello everyone, I’m Sébastien Renard, Lead Writer of A Plague Tale: Requiem. Three years after the series’ first title: A Plague Tale: Innocence, we thought it was the right time to look at the development of our main characters. In the upcoming sequel, Requiem, Amicia and Hugo de Rune are at a turning point in their lives.

How have Amicia and Hugo changed since childhood?

Sibling relationships are central to Innocence. Amicia and Hugo don’t know each other very well at the start of the game, and with their survival, their complicated but strong feelings for each other are at stake. Both are trying to find their place, with Amicia becoming more and more protective of her brother.

The game ends with this existing relationship for the next chapter to build on. The idea for the sequel was to keep these themes alive while introducing new ones, each with their own conflicts and emotions.

Requiem introduces a more mature Amicia. She has come to terms with her introverted self, and she has become more playful and wants to bond with her brother. Our heroes now require a more in-depth treatment, and this will bring new types of situations. Their inner weakness will be their next test.

Threatened by their own selves

Hugo’s powers are growing – he will struggle to keep them in check and sometimes they will topple him. Though they would be the key to getting him out of dangerous situations, he would need to fight the risk of having to give in to his powers.

As for Amicia, the fighting skills forged in Innocence would backfire on her. She won’t have any choice but to take on the role that only she can – but she will have to deal with the traumatic emotions that come with it.

Our characters are not superhuman, and our two main characters will pay the price of being a hero. Thankfully, they’ll get help along the way. Unlike the unfortunate companions Amicia and Hugo formed in the first game, Requiem will introduce new characters who mature with more confidence and experience who will guide Two brothers overcome their personal struggles.

Magical paradise and dangerous encounters

Our heroes will face their inner conflicts along with their outer conflicts. To begin with, they will discover a new part of France, Provence, which will offer new sights and sensations, making them believe in some kind of paradise. Unfortunately, the harsh realities of the Middle Ages inevitably caught on, and their hopes vanished before they could become too comfortable.

Provence’s roads are unpredictable and dangerous everywhere: the bands of mercenaries, the ambushes and the ruthless nature of their times – and the simple villagers are no exception. Don’t forget the rats and Bite, another trauma they will face as the world crumbles around them. The tragic plague followed them.

Continuation from Innocent: show initiative

It is clear that their greatest difficulties are related to Hugo’s strength, and eventually they will realize what that means.

In the same process, they began to take the lead in action. In Innocence, Amicia and Hugo play a passive role in how events unfold: with the Inquisition following them, they can only react to attacks.

When the Requiem began, no one followed de Runes. This allows them to move on and face adversity. The whispers of an island related to Hugo’s fate will cause them to move to more unexpected territories. Amicia and Hugo will be led to act to the limit of morality, and their friends from yesterday may become their enemies tomorrow…

A Plague Tale: Requiem releases on October 18, 2022 on PlayStation 5. We can’t wait for you to finally reunite with Amicia and Hugo!
