Here’s our look back at Reverse Week — right here at Green car report—For the week ending October 28, 2022.

In an interview with GCR, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius spoke about the company’s broad pivot to electric vehicles, including the effectiveness of its next-generation architectures, the electric G-Wagen, and its driving software. It also plans to do more in the charging space.

Hyundai is introducing a Battery Conditioner feature that will cut Hyundai EVs’ real-world fast charging times—Start with Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 2023 — by warming up the battery before stopping charging. With the same technology likely offered to the Kia EV6, it could make this whole family of EVs more likely to replicate a 10% to 80% charge in 18 minutes.

We’ve delved into the balance Volvo is looking for between range and two-way charging in Electric SUV EX90. At launch, the EX90 will be ready for AC and DC bidirectional charging, smart charging and, depending on the market, home energy management. With Volvo going all-electric by 2030, this will hopefully be at the forefront of the sea change in its ecosystem.

The 2023 Ford Escape Hybrid is one of several versions of this popular SUV to receive a sporty new ST-Line treatment, as part of a mid-cycle refresh for the entire lineup. The Escape Plug-In Hybrid is back, too, but Ford doesn’t see either hybrid climbing the sales charts the way the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V hybrid do.

For about $41,000, 2023 Toyota Crown sedan roll in at about 41 mpg. The taller, hybrid, all-wheel-drive sedan is offered in two powertrains, with Platinum versions dialing it up to a performance-oriented Hybrid Max system and a 30 mpg rating.

In China, Toyota is exploiting BYD’s LFP battery technology for Tesla’s size 3 BZ3 sedan, was revealed this week and it’s fascinating on many levels. But as a result of several China-only partnerships with the automaker, it will never be available in the US or Europe.

And to round up the week’s Toyota news on a speculative note, the company aims to roll out up to 30 EVs globally by 2030, but according to one report, it’s only been suspended work on those that model – including the Compact Cruise EV – because it’s more powerful Toyota brand switch to electric car. Will that include the United States?

The iPhone maker, Taiwan’s Foxconn, is now a contract electric vehicle manufacturer in Ohio, and it recently unveiled its first international EV electric vehicle, Foxtron Model Cexpected in 2023. It also unveiled two new prototypes, bringing the number of separate EVs it has in the works to five.

Soon there will be Kia Electric Vehicles Made by Georgia—In Hyundai’s upcoming “Metaplant,” officials held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday. Production for Kia will begin in early 2025, and last week, Hyundai revealed that the plant has the potential to expand from the initial 300,000 EVs annually to 500,000.

Honda promises to “bring the excitement back” to the redesigned 11th-generation Accord, which is expected to be revealed next month. That includes a larger touchscreen and Better Accord Hybrid performanceit says — and we bet the automaker’s latest improved hybrid system from the CR-V to do just that.

Lucid is officially selling a connected home charging station that allows 80 mile range per hour charging at home in the Air — ideally installed on 100 amp circuits and the highest charging rates, taking advantage of the electric sedan’s 19.2 kW integrated charger and its exemplary efficiency.

Oil and gas giant BP is planning to build a series of EV fast charge center to call a car vehicle. The first will offer 48 charging ports and be built near Los Angeles’ LAX airport.

Many plug-in truck recalls are related to battery accidents. Nearly 14,000 won Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid SUVs from the years 2022 and 2023 have been recalled because of a faulty battery pack’s 200 amp fuse and an issue that could stall owners. A new report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that globally demand for fossil fuels will peak this decade. Due in part to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the resulting energy uncertainty, government spending on renewable energy has increased – marking a “historic turning point” in the direction of from fossil fuels, it predicts.

EPA has announced recipients of almost 1 billion dollars for electric school buses. This immediate funding round is just the first round of a five-year, $5 billion program enabled by the bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021, and the round will yield 2,400 large yellow electric vehicles spread across across all 50 states.

There is mounting evidence indicating EV charger on light pole as an affordable solution to build city toll infrastructure and support apartment dwellers to park their cars on the roadside overnight. And a new study shows it to be the solution with the lowest CO2.

Tesla is reportedly facing new levels of scrutiny from both the US DOJ and the SEC — both passed self-driving statement. As of the end of the week, both government agencies had yet to confirm these potential actions, based on reports from Reuters and The Wall Street Journal, quoted insiders.
