If you went to this year’s CES show in Las Vegas to see the exciting new cameras, you’ll be disappointed by the sketchy booths presented by three camera brands that have actually popped up: Canon, Sony and Panasonic. But here’s the good news: Charging your camera gear just got a whole lot more glamorous! Import PWRBOARD.
As the name suggests, the device includes a board with a series of holes to accept different types of charging modules — arranged in whatever configuration you want. Each charger draws power from the board and the quantity is limited only by the available capacity. There are two sizes planned, Mini (23cm x 35cm, 16.5” diagonal) and Classic (33cm x 50cm, 23” diagonal), with custom sizes available to order.
According to the American startup – also known as PWRBOARD – more than 30 charging modules will be available at launch. These include chargers for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, GoPro and DJI cameras, as well as other chargers for AA, AAA and V-mount batteries. The device also includes a couple of built-in USB-C and USB-A ports for additional device charging. The PWRBOARD can be plugged into a wall outlet (110V or 220V) or used with a DC 12V/14V automotive power input.
For anyone wanting a neat, cable-free solution to their charging problems, it all sounds very promising, but there’s one caveat: PWRBOARD relies on a commanding campaign successful crowdfunding — scheduled to begin “early 2022”.
