Puppies are totally scared by a slice of lemon
Dogs absolutely love to play with something new and new – whether it’s a new friend, a new toy, or just a new game they come up with (my dog almost here invented “hide the sock”, and I Not a fan), nothing they found more thrilling.
Knowing this, some dog owners decided to test their dog’s reaction to lemons. What will they think of the sour fruit?
For Reeses, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, the response is comedy gold!
After being handed the piece of cake, Reeses was immediately unsure of how to react. He circled it, pounced on it, and patted it with a paw. It’s just a new thrill for him! He plucked up the courage to bite it and immediately got rid of it with his adorable puppy energy.
It’s a fun video, but beware if you’re thinking of trying it out with your dog – as it turns out, there’s a good reason dogs hate lemons.
Write to loveyourdog.comJoanna Woodnutt explains, “The worst thing about lemons from a dog’s perspective is that they taste terrible. However, this is not the only reason you should avoid giving your dog lemon. Lemons contain citric acid, essential oils (such as limonene) and psoralen, all of which are known to cause illness in dogs.”
Although small amounts are not likely to cause health problems, Dr. Woodnutt recommends avoiding fruit entirely in your dog’s diet, as well as watching for any cleaners that have a lemon scent that doesn’t help. How often do you use it?
However, the whole incident didn’t seem to hurt Reeses in the slightest. He’s had all sorts of adventures, as you can see on Instagram!
