For better or worse, Tesla has made a significant mark on the auto industry. The American electric car manufacturer has made a lot of changes in the auto industry over the past decade, fueling the electric vehicle boom, Promote direct sales to consumersAnd change the meaning of 0-60 time. However, another thing that Tesla does is offers extremely limited “free” paint colors. People must be willing to accept standard paint or add a few thousand dollars to get a nice color. Porsche, like an elementary school student who doesn’t know the answer and I don’t think they will be caughtbend down and looked at Tesla’s homework.
For nearly 20 years, Porsche has offered four standard colors for its sports cars; black, white, Guards Red and Speed Yellow (later changed to Racing Yellow). Guards Red has been an iconic Porsche color since the 1980s and Speed Yellow is a modern classic. SUVs and sedans often offer color as a no-cost option. However, for the 2025 model year, the brand has determined that if you want a colorful car, you’ll have to pay a premium.
With the exception of the 718 Boxster and Cayman, which are ending production shortly, all Porsche models sold come in black and white as standard. You can pay $840 for three different gray colors and another black color. Guards Red has gone from free to $1,500 and the Speed/Racing Yellow color has disappeared completely.

However, unlike Tesla, Porsche is willing to paint your car any color you want, as long as you pay. You can pay up to $2,980 for “regular” colors, or you can choose from a much larger list of pre-approved color options for $14,190. If the color you want isn’t on that list, you can pay the same amount as a Subaru Outback with the premium “Paint to Sample Plus” package.
At the end of the day, $1,500 isn’t going to stop someone from buying their $120,000 base 911 in any color they want, but it’s annoying that Tesla’s influence has spread throughout the industry in this way . I want Speed Yellow, damn it. I guess I’ll have to go with Cartagena Yellow, it’s a neat color anyway.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about how Porsche still hasn’t made adaptive cruise control a standard feature, right? That’s basically the general standard for anything over $25,000 these days. What’s going on in Stuttgart?
