Police shoot unarmed pregnant woman five times on suspicion of car robbery
Missouri police shot a woman five times on Friday while trying to arrest a suspect who was pregnant for allegedly jacking up a car. A horrified witness before police said she showed officers she was unarmed and told them she was pregnant. She was unfortunately shot with both hands in the air.
KCTV5 reported that Leonna Hale, 26, was shot by officers in response to a report of an armed robbery at around 8 p.m. Police over radio alleges that a male driver fled while driving. they try to pull him over. Later, Hale was shot when she also tried to flee, the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Witness records the consequences of police shooting pregnant woman
“They shot her! Oh my God, they shot her! A witness named Shé Danja on facebook cried in footage she captured following the officer-involved shooting Friday night in Kansas City. However, the horrified witness shared on Facebook that before turning to run, Hale “raised her hands and talked to them to show she had no weapons!!!”
She added that the pregnant woman was still in handcuffs after police shot her five times.
“What the hell! Oh my, they shot her and they still had their hands in the cuffs! ”
The witness also told The Kansas City Star that Hale only refused to go to the ground because she told police she was pregnant.
“She would cooperate, she was scared, she ran down there and they shot her… not right!” she exclaimed in her video at the scene.
However, Shé Danja said that Hale warned that there were guns in the car. Police confirmed that a handgun was found nearby after the shooting.
Suspected in stable condition after shooting
Despite the terrible circumstances, the future mother is still alive. Hale is said to be seriously injured and has been taken to hospital. On the last check, she was in stable condition. The male suspect was unharmed and was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.
No officers were injured and no citizens were injured in this incident.
