The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that the investigation into the death of a crew member shot by actor Alec Baldwin on set last October is nearing its end.

Investigators said they were keeping Baldwin’s phone records, which the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department was assisting New Mexico authorities with, the sheriff’s office said.

“The district attorney’s office worked with the Suffolk County Executive and Baldwin’s attorney to collect the phone records. After the Suffolk County Executive completed its agency support and sent the those records to New Mexico law enforcement, our detectives will then need to scrutinize those phones. Mendoza said.

It’s been almost nine months since Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a gun used as a prop. They are a member of the Western filming crew Rust in the suburbs of Santa Fe.

Since then, New Mexico’s Bureau of Occupational Safety and Health fine film production company behind Rust $136,793 for firearm safety defects. The Hutchins family has also sued Baldwin and the film’s producers.

But police and prosecutors have yet to reach any conclusions regarding potential criminal charges related to Hutchins’ death.

Mendoza’s office said Thursday that investigators must review a new report received from the New Mexico Office of Medical Investigations. OMI used forensic reports from the FBI to complete their investigation, according to the Santa Fe sheriff’s office.

“Once the Sheriff’s detectives have completed their review of the OMI reports, and when the phone records are received and reviewed by the detectives, the final investigation case file by the Sheriff’s Office The sheriff will be referred to the District Attorney for review and a final conviction,” the Santa Fe sheriff’s office said.
