You’ve been in front of the camera, you’ve read a million scripts, you’ve seen millions of versions of what something could be, and then you see how it’s actually made. What is it like on the other side of it?
First of all, it has to be there from the beginning. A lot of people will say, “It’s going there, it’s going there.” I’ve always felt that if the kernel of the idea or the magic wasn’t there to begin with, it wouldn’t get there as more people joined or more questions were asked or more entries were made. pay attention to something.
I find that the things that are ultimately even good from afar are also good from the leap — in my experience at least.
With Tell Me Lies, the book was great. When I translated it to TV, I said, “Okay, how are we going to do this?” After that, Meaghan [Oppenheimer] becoming a pilot is truly one of the best pilots I have ever read.
Then we started casting, and we finally got our first pick for our main character, Lucy, Grace Van Patten, who was amazing. I just feel like we’ve been really lucky on this one.
