Platinum Jubilee: What will the weather be like for the celebrations? | UK News

The Met Office has released its latest Platinum Record forecast – and it’s not looking great, with the risk of showers as the UK prepares to celebrate 70 years of the Queen’s record reign.

The four-day bank holiday weekend will see a bright start and warmer conditions before the weather turns cooler and more unsettled.

Thursday will be dry and mostly sunny for parts of the south – as the Queen is expected to delight crowds by appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to mark the start of celebration after Trooping the Colour. However, northern areas will see showers.

Friday – when a thanksgiving service is scheduled at St Paul’s Cathedral – is expected to start “well and dry in many places” with some warm weather, but “there could also be a some morning showers,” according to the Met Office.

In anticipation of sunny blue skies and dry weather on Saturday with temperatures hitting the 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) mark, which will be good news for those taking part in the Epsom Derby and then the Party. BBC Platinum at the Palace Open Air Concert.

On Sunday, thousands will gather across the country as more than 85,000 Jubilee Lunches and street parties are held.

But picnickers and participants in the spectacular Pageant parade through central London on Sunday could face more unsettled weather, with a colder, cloudy day and some risk of showers.

The Met Office said that while there were still “many details to work out”, forecasters would be monitoring the path of a warm air stream from across the continent as the weekend draws closer.

However, it can bring heavy showers but could be replaced by drier weather and “fairly warm” temperatures as a high-pressure system moves in.

“More volatile conditions will set in fairly broadly on Monday,” said Chris Bulmer, deputy chief of the meteorology office.

“After a cool start to the week, temperatures are expected to return to average for the week. What we’re watching over the weekend is how far northward this warm air is. This brings. the possibility of heavy rain outbreaks in places.

“There’s still a lot to be determined for the Jubilee weekend forecast. On balance, it looks like after the start of showers, although fine in places, high pressure will try to build up from the side. west brings more stable and drier weather, at least for some.”
