Mazda CX-80 will launch on April 18 as the fourth SUV model on this automaker’s list. Large product groupJoin other models like CX-60, CX-70 And CX-90 what has already been revealed.
Pre-sales of the CX-80 will begin in May this year and the SUV will be available in dealerships in the fall. According to Mazda, the CX-80 will become the new key car model in the region, ranked above the CX-60.
The CX-80 is a three-row SUV with two folding seats in the third row and the option of a three-row second-row configuration. The latter includes the option of two separate captain’s chairs combined with a center console, creating a 2-2-3 layout as an alternative to the 2-3-3 layout.
The CX-80 will also be a large car with an overall length of nearly 5 meters and a wheelbase of more than 3 meters. For context, the CX-60 is 4,745 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,680 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,870 mm. The bigger difference is noticeable as the CX-70 and CX-90 have the same wheelbase of 3,119 mm, with only a separate front bumper design to distinguish them.
Based on the teasers provided, the CX-80 will look noticeably different from the CX-60 thanks to a longer and more upright rear end, along with a redesigned greenhouse. We can also notice the thick chrome trim around the rear window, although the taillights look similar.
Like its siblings, the CX-80 will use the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture with a front-engine longitudinal layout and rear-wheel drive. It will therefore mirror the CX-60’s powertrain options, which include a plug-in hybrid option that relies on an additional fuel cap on one of the rear fenders. CX-80 is a replacement for CX-8 and the CX-9 ended production (for select markets) in 2023.
