The PGA 2022 PGA Championship multi-golfer region doesn’t have a single-digit favorite to claim its second major championship of the year, and has plenty of value past the marquee players across the board. Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and US Open champion Jon Rahm topped the table 11-1, according to Caesars Sportsbook, but then it opened up to more newly renovated Southern Hills fairways just outside of them. .
Some of the familiar names are just behind Scheffler and Rahm, but the most interesting names fall further 20-1 or so. That’s where the field’s value comes as the scene there is littered with newly crowned major champions (Hideki Matsuyama), historic greats who may or may not be injured (Brooks) Koepka) and hot players as they have been for years (Jordan Spieth, Shane Lowry).
It’s hard to imagine anyone getting past the top 10-15 favorites to win the event, although 2021 champion Phil Mickelson will open 200-1 next week. there. It would be impossible for that to happen again. Golfing at the top is hard to get into right now. The best players are pretty consistent, and they almost always feature in the biggest tournaments in the world (the last five major winners are Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Mickelson and Matsuyama).

Very interesting DJ here. He’s having his worst batting season since 2011, but he’s been a threat at the PGA over the past few years with a pair of top-two finishes in his last three games. McIlroy has also been fascinating as he’s been playing great golf over the past few months, and I think a common narrative around him is that he’s always thrived at the PGA Championship. However, the reality is that Rory has only had one top 10 spot since winning at Valhalla in 2014. In terms of numbers, Thomas is probably the better pick there.

This is an interesting group. Hovland can absolutely win this tournament, and I prefer his value at 22-1 than what is offered with McIlroy or Thomas at 14-1. I absolutely love Matsuyama, who finished in third at AT&T Byron Nelson and provided an approach play that was perfectly suited to the vast lawns of the Southern Hills with small landings. Lowry has the second-best stroke in his last 20 rounds entering the event, behind only Scheffler, who has won everything he’s seen lately. Koepka is interesting because he has 15 top 10 in his last 25 majors, but he pulled out of Nelson’s last week. If he’s healthy, he’ll grow, but I don’t know if he knows he’s healthy.
