If you like your RPG adventures that contain dungeons and dragons, as well as complexity like Dungeons & Dragons, you might like the newest game that was given away for free during the Epic Games Store’s festive sale. In 24 hours, Epic is playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker Free for memento. It’s a vast fantasy RPG based on the Pathfinder pen ‘n’ paper system, played from your classy perspective. The kind of RPG that appeals to some, annoys others — so a great candidate for a free-player.
Visit Epic Games Store to request a free copy of the memento. You have until 4pm GMT (8am Pacific) on Saturday the 25th to do so, before Epic moves on to new free players, the next in 15 days of their free giveaway. Hopefully they’ve got a real big queue for Christmas?
In ours Pathfinder: Kingmaker Review, Giada Zavarise likened the experience to playing a tabletop RPG with a boring DM.
“I’ve dealt with this type of DM before,” she says. “It’s the type of people who spend so much time creating their perfect fantasy world, drawing maps and horrible numbers, that they forget what makes a role-playing game fun: the drama between team members, the solutions that don’t work, the silly pranks. At least, that’s what makes D&D so interesting to me.”
That said, I know many old RPG fans who dug it. And the Owlcat Games developers have come up with lots of great patches and updates since then, including a massive free ‘Enhanced Edition’ overhaul. And, you know, it’s completely free right now, so you can discover the opinions for yourself.
Nate has gotten so much better with its 2021 sequel, Wrath Of The Ri Right, speech it fostered “his desperate mission to relive the moments of my boyhood, when I first encountered the games that would become all-time favorites”.
