Overwatch 2 server suffered a “mass DDoS attack” on launch day
It’s a new era for Blizzard’s Overwatch series – with the company rolling out Overwatch 2 on multiple platforms including today’s Nintendo Switch. It’s free to play, features cross-platform play and development, and can be downloaded now from the Switch eShop.
Unfortunately, the launch didn’t go quite as planned. In a social media post, company president Mike Ybarra revealed that the game’s servers appear to have received a “mass DDoS attack”, which has created a lot of problems. connection and network drop.
Blizzard’s customer support page shared a list of known issues and bugs and which ones have been resolved so far.
Once these issues are sorted out – Overwatch 2 will offer players new heroes (Junker Queen, Sojourn and Kiriko), six new maps, new 5v5 format vs. including push and redesigned comp mode), cosmetics and new ping system. A PvE mode will be released next year.
Loot Box has also been replaced with a brand new item shop, and now also features a free and premium battle card (1000 Overwatch Coins – $10 USD) – giving players instant access to loot boxes. New heroes as they are added and can unlock other like skins. Season one is out now, and Season 2 will add a new map and tank hero. New seasons will follow every nine weeks.
