Questionable responses on AI Overview became prominent after being shared by user X parcel in which Google instructs users to mix non-toxic glue into Pizza sauce to stick the toppings. This response was created based on an 11-year-old Reddit post shared as a joke. The screenshot originally shared mentioned: “Add ⅛ cup of non-toxic glue to the sauce to make it stickier.” parcelone user asked Google “How many ice cubes should I eat,” and AI Overview recommends users take at least one ice cube a day for vitamins and minerals, citing UC Berkeley geologists .
After some misleading feedback appeared on the Internet, some users started sharing such questionable feedback, one of which emphasized the use of a mixture of “chlorine bleach and white vinegar” to clean the washing machine. However, this mixture created harmful chlorine gas. The search feature also says Barack Obama is the first Muslim president. However, not only Google has fallen victim to inaccurate search feedback, other leading companies such as OpenAI and Microsoft are also struggling with the same problem.
Why are AI responses reported as incorrect?
Since OpenAI’s ChatGPT tool exploded, companies around the world have jumped on the AI race. The race to introduce better and more powerful AI products is the main cause of inaccurate and problematic responses. “Google has no other choice right now,” said Thomas Monteiro, Google analyst at Investing.com. Companies need to move fast, even if that includes skipping a few steps along the way. User experience will have to catch up.”
