When asked if Ethan Crumbley’s parents went missing in Oakland County, Michigan, Sheriff Michael Bouchard told CNN it was “correct.”

“If they think they’re going to run away, they don’t,” Bouchard told CNN’s Victor Blackwell Friday.

Bouchard said officers are working with their FBI and U.S. Marshals Service partners. CNN has reached out to both for comment.

Attorneys for the Crumbleys are working with law enforcement to get ready for arrest once the charges are announced, according to the sheriff, who added that the couple is no longer in contact with an attorney.

“It was a sign of their intention to flee,” Bouchard said.

When asked if Bouchard was concerned that the pair might be armed, he admitted “anything can happen” and he warned people not to get close to the couple. .

All available resources are dedicated to locating them, the sheriff said.

The pair went unsupervised until “near last night”, when charges were pending and detectives began the process of tracking them down. There is no early monitoring on them in advance as there are no pending charges.

Bouchard could not answer whether the couple were in Michigan when they appeared via video at their son’s placement earlier this week.

When asked about the exact time his department last knew the location of the Crumbleys, the sheriff said, “I really had to talk to the detectives to find out where they last contacted them. or where they last had their last name. I mean, this obviously happened recently.”
