NY Chaplaincy Breaks Ground on New Building
The New York Circuit Chaplains of America held a groundbreaking ceremony on March 28 for a multi-purpose building and chapel on the grounds of the New York Circuit. Belmont Park in Elmont, NY
The 3,500-square-foot facility, designed by Frost Hurff Architects, will sit directly inside the six-gate entrance to Belmont Park and include office space for chaplain staff and a classroom to be used as a learning center. .
Attending the ceremony were David O’Rourke, President and CEO of NYRA; Ramon Dominguez, a retired Hall of Fame race car driver who served as president of the chaplain; Michael Dubb, a purebred owner and founder and principal of the Beechwood Foundation; and Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillips.
“The Racetrack Chaplaincy plays an important role in the lives of so many here at Belmont Park, and this new building will be the centerpiece of spiritual perfection for decades to come,” said O’Rourke.
“This facility is a dream come true for the chaplains and for everyone it helps,” said Dominguez. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.”
Major funding for the project came from Lisa and Kenny Troutt of WinStar Ranch, Kristine and Chris Kay, Marylou Whitney and late husband John Hendrickson, and the estate of the late Dolores Ochota. Dubb, who donated two trailers where Chaplaincy is currently located, donated building materials for the entire facility.
