Not sure how to add depth and brightness to boring, flat photos? This is the way

Do you sometimes look at your pictures and think there’s something missing? Something you can’t put your finger on, but instinctively know? Your images are usually flat and lack depth. This is exactly how to fix that problem and add real pop and vibrancy to your photos.

We all have our own workflow and style for editing images. Some of you might start from the Basics panel in Lightroom and work your way down one by one. Others might open an image directly in Photoshop and then do some basic manipulation with the Camera Raw Filter before using the multitude of tools Photoshop has to offer. Others might do something completely different. But it often happens that when we are at the end of the first editing phase, we take a moment to evaluate our work and we realize that something is not quite right. Very little something is missing, but we cannot determine what it is.

And that’s what brings us to this amazing video by Adam Gibbs, in which he uses some of the images his followers have provided to show what they’re lacking and, most importantly, how to fix them. I’m not talking about obvious issues like crooked horizon lines or unnecessary elements in the frame, like ugly distractions. That’s the stage where your image is basically fine but just lacks the amazing element that really makes you think you’re winning. The culprit is often a lack of depth, and in this video, Gibbs walks you through exactly how to add depth to your photos so you can confidently take the steps needed to turn your photos from good to great. Give it a look, and let me know what you think.
