Not all color correctors are created equal. See Why.

As a commercial photographer working on advertising campaigns, I pay close attention to color. From photography to the final result, color plays an important role in my work. The tools I use for color, by all means, determine the quality of the result.

My tool of choice when it comes to color correction, the stage of the process when color really matters, is SpyderX Elite. There are many benefits to using such a modern and advanced color corrector: from the speed of its operation, the optics based on the lens, to advanced features, such as soft waterproofing. . In this article, I’ll cover these features and talk about why it’s worth investing in SpyderX Elite. Corrected? Follow a great recommendation for current calibrators.

Multi-monitor support

Working on a studio-quality 4K monitor, I pay a lot of attention to color grading. In fact, it’s probably one of my favorite parts of the process. However, my team also pays a lot of attention. There are several screens on which the images are viewed, so I need a corrector that can match them so they look the same. This is done with the SpyderX Elite StudioMatch feature, which creates a target that can be shared between the computers displayed and other computers. This technology was created with a view to more precise screen matching; it eliminates the guesswork with different backlight technologies. That’s right, not all monitors are created equal. My 4K studio beast can’t match an old iMac. Different monitors operate with different backlight technologies and different panels, which can make it difficult to match colors on the screen. On the other hand, SpyderX Elite has implemented a technology called SpyderTune, which will help you to best fit different screens technologically. Sure, you won’t get the same performance from unbranded studio monitors and eBay monitors, but you’ll match them to an extent. This is mainly useful when combining high-end monitors with lower-end monitors used for on-site work. You wouldn’t want an overly expensive screen to fall on a rock and break in half.

Going deeper into working closely with monitors, SpyderX can analyze monitor performance at a very in-depth level. Knowing what your monitor can do can be very important. Not every monitor can output the same level of accuracy, brightness, color gamut, contrast, tone response, and white point.

All of this is done in less than two minutes, which means very little waiting time and no significant disruption to the workflow.

Soft Verification

A lot of my work continues to be printed. Print quality varies from press to premium archival paper. I have to know how much color is lost when printing on one paper or another. Furthermore, I would like to know how much my quality degrades with each printer. That’s right, soft testing allows me to preview how my images will look on prints, printers, and even monitors of varying quality. This is especially useful when an image must appear on digital signage, point of sale, and storefront prints. That way, I know how to change my image to fit the needs of the media in which it is displayed. There is also an option to add an ICC profile of your specific device to further tailor the settings to the device you own. Typically, most high-end printers will send an ICC profile for you to register and inspect.

Build quality

SpyderX Elite is built with precision but also ease of use, which is an upgrade over older versions and a competitive advantage over others. The lens-based optical system uses the latest sensor technology to provide greater color accuracy with screen color shadow detail and more accurate white balance. To protect this sensor, there is a built-in lens cover, which also acts as a counterweight when calibrating your monitor. On the other side of the calibrator, there is a sensor that measures ambient light, which will tell you if the lighting conditions of the room you are in are suitable for color working. I find this especially useful in later stages of color grading when I’m looking at actual tones. It’s not too helpful in terms of placement, where all you can have is a screen shadow. The screw mount in the calibrator itself even allows it to be mounted on a lamp holder and used for projector calibration.

In my opinion, the Datacolor features built into the SpyderX Elite clearly give it an edge over the competition and justify an upgrade over previous generation devices or even another brand. Not all calibrators are created equal. Enhance the color bar with SpyderX Elite. Datacolor is actually giving away their top-of-the-line SpyderX Elite calibrators with a huge $120 discount on current calibrators, Get yours for just $149.99 right now!
