NJ Stewards Suspending Instructors Richards, Lucas, Potts
In a series of rulings published January 21 in the International Association of Racing Commissioners website, New Jersey administers fines and/or suspensions of many coaches for violations in the last year Monmouth Park meeting.
The heaviest punishment was handed down to coach Marvin Richards, whose manager was suspended for 365 days from May 7, 2022 to May 6, 2023, after his traineeship Awesomenewyear tested positive for the banned substances oxazepam and ibuprofen during Friday’s race on September 3 at Monmouth Park. He was also fined $5,000.
The coaches knocked out Superstars Stables’ Awesomenewyear in first place and demanded a redistribution of the race’s purse.
In another action, coaches Bonnie Lucas and Wayne Potts were each given a 30-day suspension and a $1,000 fine, both for conduct detrimental to racing. Their suspension is scheduled from May 7 to June 5.
Other rulings noted a $1,000 fine against trainer Peter Walder after tests revealed the presence of aminocaproic acid (Amicar) in Briella after finishing first on September 4 in the seventh race and a $500 fine for coach Jose D’Angelo afterwards Avenida Manana showed the presence of 5-hydroxydantrolene on September 18 after the seventh race. P and L Thoroughbred Racing and Briella of Walder Racing and ProRacing Stable’s Avenida Manana were declared disqualified, winning first word and after first word.
ARCI’s website does not state whether any of the rulings have been appealed.
