NFL standings: AFC, NFC playoff image update for Week 18 of the 2021 season


The 2021 NFL season has ended with a new 17-game schedule and only one game left for each team. Here’s a look at the updated rankings and what the playoff picture will look like for the final Week 18.

The League still keeps the playoff playing field open, with 14 of the 32 teams (43.8%) set to qualify for the most recent post-season. That number includes 7 people who attended the AFC and NFC, only the No. 1 seed said goodbye thanks to the home field advantage.

Who will participate?

1. Kansas City Chiefs (12-5), championship, AFC West. The captain lost at the Bengals in Week 17 to lose control of the top seed in the AFC knockout. To get back to No. 1 after beating the Broncs in Week 18, they need to lose to the Titans in Week 1. They won’t drop any lower if there’s a gap between them and the Bengals and Bills.

2. Tennessee Titans (11-5), champion, AFC South. The Titans won this division with the Dolphins’ ride home in Week 17 while the second-place Colts also lost to the Raiders. 3. Cincinnati Bengals (10-6), champion, AFC North. The Bengals clinched the championship with a thrilling Week 17 win over the Captains, fueled by Raven’s loss at home to the Rams. They are also ahead of the winning Bills, whom they have yet to play against, for their superior record in AFC matches (8-3 vs 6-5). 5. New England Patriots (10-6), second place, AFC East. The Patriots ended their expected two-game losing streak by taking out the Jaguars in Week 17. They caught up with the winning Bills to push the division race into the final week, needing a win over the Dolphins and a game. lose to the Bills to get the East back. The Week 17 win also gave the Patriots a one-game lead over the Colts, who they lost in Week 15.

1. Green Bay Packers (13-3), champion, NFC North. 2. Los Angeles Rams (12-4), first class, NFC West. The Rams clinched a playoff spot before stepping onto the field against the Ravens, but still got a Week 17 win back in Baltimore. They couldn’t win the division after the Cardinals beat the Cowboys, but the Rams moved up to 2nd against the Cowboys with a Western lead and were able to end things at home against the 49ers in Week 18. They also hold a tie against the Buccaneers.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12-4), champion, NFC South. The Buccaneers beat the Jets in a surprise comeback in Week 17 to catch up with the winning Rams and also dance the losing Cowboys. They will have a shot to move up to 2nd with a win over the Panthers in Week 18 and if the Rams, who beat them in Week 3, will lose to the 49ers.

4. Dallas Cowboys (12-5), championship, NFC East. The Cowboys recovered to beat the resting Eagles in Week 18 after they lost to the Cardinals in a failed comeback in Week 17 to fall behind the winning Rams and Buccaneers. The division ended in Week 16 but the Cowboys blew the chance to take the No. 1 seed behind the Packers. They may now be in 4th place and will now have a home rematch with the Cardinals.

5. Arizona Cardinals (11-5), 2nd place, NFC West. The Cardinals, who took at least the top wild card position, survived the NFC West race by beating the Cowboys and catching up with the winning Rams.
