New York’s Jefferson County declares state of emergency and bans travel during blizzard conditions
A severe winter storm continues to release dangerous conditions nationwide this holiday weekend.

Increased death toll: At least 15 people died across multiple states, including New York, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Ohio, Kentucky, Kansas, and Missouri.
Power cut: More than 1.7 million customers According to Poweroutage.Us, there was no electricity across the country until Saturday morning. By daylight on Saturday, utilities had made progress in restoring power, but numbers could rise throughout the day as strong winds are forecast for much of the Midwest and East North. In states like North Carolina and Tennessee, residents have been told there will be temporary power outages due to the weather stressing electricity providers.
Chilling temperature: More than 100 million people in the US remained under a wind chill warning on Saturday morning. Some warnings have begun to lapse across parts of central and eastern parts of the country.
Holiday impact: The winter storm has disrupted travel for three consecutive days now, as airlines have canceled a total of more than 9,000 flights from Thursday to Friday and pre-cancelled Saturdays across the country. More than 1,600 flights canceled so far Saturday nationwide. Delivery companies including Amazon, the US Postal Service, UPS and FedEx are warning customers of disruption to their operations on the last day of delivery before Christmas due to the storm.
