New Digital Health Order coming in Victoria



A new Digital Health Command will be established in Victoria as part of the state government’s latest hospital infrastructure project.

According to the press release, the facility will enable the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) and Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH) to support regional, rural and smaller urban services caring for patients at the hospital. local through virtual care and consultation from a specialist clinician. This will streamline patient flows and improve access to specialist services across Victoria.

It will also track health outcomes, providing data to support future clinical trials and the development of new medical technology.

The University of Melbourne has been tapped to co-design the Digital Health Command, which is also being built as part of the redevelopment of the adjacent Parkville area.

BIGGER BACKGROUND

On Monday, the Victorian government announced its largest hospital infrastructure project, starting with the A$5-6 billion (about $3.5 billion) upgrade and expansion of the hospital’s hospitals. institutes and research facilities in Arden and Parkville.

The new facilities at Arden will be centers for elective surgery, outpatient treatment, clinical trials, rehabilitation and low-risk women’s health services while the Parkville sites redeveloped will focus on emergency, trauma and acute care. They are expected to provide more than 1,800 beds and treatment spaces; added 10,500 electives through eight new cinemas at RMH; and an additional 2,500 births at RWH. About 1,000 more patients are expected to receive critical care in the new facilities.

Additionally, the redevelopment will also include a new dedicated Clinical Trials Center with additional research space at Arden and training facilities to support the next generation of healthcare workers.
