Australia’s new government will look more like its own country, as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has appointed a record 10 women to his upcoming Cabinet. Senior appointments include Penny Wong as foreign minister, Claire O’Neil as interior and cybersecurity minister, and Katy Gallagher as finance minister.
“This is an exciting team. It’s a team brimming with talent, I think, with people totally committed to making a difference as ministers and assistant ministers,” said Albanese. say on Tuesday at a press conference in Canberra.
He added: “This is the largest number of women ever to serve in the Australian Cabinet.
Several new leaders were sworn in last week, but Albanese has now announced full of slate of Cabinet posts. The remaining ministers will be sworn in on Wednesday morning, he said.

With 10 women in leadership roles, Albanese is raising the bar for leadership seven women in the top jobs under Scott Morrison, the former prime minister. But Morrison’s government also struggled to deal with a string of sexual misconduct scandals that helped pave the way for the conservative toppling after nearly a decade in power.
The 10 positions reflect less than half of the more than 20 positions. But Women’s Agenda website notes, “The Albanese cabinet is more diverse than Australia’s previous cabinet, including both men and women to serve.”
