NBC shoots an entire segment on film for the first time in 40 years

You know, film photography really made a comeback when it appeared on mainstream news sites like NBC. Not only did they tell this story, but they even went so far as to shoot the scene entirely on film. Something they haven’t done in nearly 44 years.

However, this is not the first time similar photography has caught the eye of reporters at the NBC news. Two years ago, they introduced analog poster boy Willem Verbeeck, who has made a name for himself by posting videos on YouTube about his experiences with film photography. He now has a popular camera bag company, Long Weekend, and is living his dream of doing the work he is passionate about. However, this segment 2 years ago did not advance as far as the recent story.

Shooting a news story on film in 2022 seems a bit crazy. This decision is testament to the broad appeal of film photography and how it appeals to Millennials and Gen zs who crave tactile and interactive photography experiences. In this video we hear from another LA film enthusiast, Jason Kummerfeldtwho also completed her career from uploading videos, leaving her job in the film industry to pursue her love of cinema and sharing it with the growing community.

NBC follows Jason (aka “The Cruel Days”) around LA filming his favorite locations, and writes poetically about how film is his only medium. It is a watch that is absolutely worth it for its nostalgic look and how this feature will mark a time when what we thought was forever dead is now back in full power. Even Kodak couldn’t keep up.
