Nauticam launches compact wide-angle switch port (WACP-C)

Nauticam’s original wide-angle switch — aka WACP-1—Chung enjoys something of a cult status in the underwater visual world. Our reviewer’s rating of attachments is typical: “[T]The picture quality achievable with WACP is far beyond any system with a gateway — and far more versatile. But at over $5,000, it’s fair to say that the WACP-1 is out of reach for the average cash-strapped shooter. Enter the new one WACP-CORE. That “C” means “compact”—not “short of cash”—but a price above $3,000 would certainly seem more appealing to the masses.

The WACP-C has a lot in common with its more expensive sibling: Like the WACP-1, it is a “dry” lens designed for use with a 28mm (equivalent) full-frame lens. ) and it is compatible with the Nauticam case with an N100 port mount. (Unlike the WACP-1, there’s no N120 to N100 port adapter in the box for easy attachment to the N120 case.) The main physical difference is size and weight: the WACP-C is about 37% smaller ( by volume) than WACP-1. And while the WACP-1 weighs 3.9kg (8.6lbs) while out in the water, the WACP-C weighs 2.24kg (4.9lbs).

Functionally, the WACP-C and WACP-1 offer the same angle of view up to 130°, full zoom capability, and minimal focus from the front element. However, the two ports have a difference in optical performance, which is probably the cause of the price difference: According to Nauticam, the WACP-C offers “approximately 3 f-stops of increased sharpness in the corner when it comes to cornering when it comes to cornering.” compared to traditional wide, online reclining lenses with the same field of view behind the dome”, while the WACP-1 offers “approximately 4 f-stops”.

Priced at $3,283, the Nauticam WACP-C can be ordered now from retailers like Backscatter.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

INTRODUCING THE SMALL N100 0.36X (WACP-C) ANGLE SWITCH

WACP-1 and WACP-2 raised the bar in what is possible in underwater optics. They provide maximum image quality with the widest angle of view available in a tilting lens. Nauticam is now very excited to release the next version of WACP, WACP-C. The wide angle switch port (WACP-C) is compact in weight and size when compared to WACP-1 and WACP-2. When looking at the volume, WACP-C is about 37% smaller than WACP-1 and 75% smaller than WACP-2.

Nauticam Compact Wide Angle Switch (WACP-C)

Like the WACP-1 and WACP-2, the WACP-C is a dry mount lens design that acts as both a port and an optical lens. It is optimized to work with professional camera lenses that have a full-frame equivalent focal length of 28mm and provide an incredible 130° angle of view. The WACP-C can focus as close as possible to the front element and capture images with minimal distortion.

Wide range of lenses are supported, both native and zoom lenses for a wide range of cameras. please check WACP-GATE CHART for supported lenses and recommended configurations as some lenses will require extension rings or adapters.

Similar to WACP-1, WACP-C significantly improves overall image sharpness. The WACP-C will provide an increase in angular sharpness of about 3 f-stops when compared to traditional wide-angle online reclining lenses with a similar field of view behind the dome. This means you can achieve the same angular sharpness with the WACP-C at f/5.6 that you can achieve with the f/16 dome rear tilt lens. For comparison, the WACP-1 offers providing about 4 f-stops increases sharpness in the corners.

The WACP-C’s zooming capabilities mean that filmmakers or underwater photographers can capture amazingly wide, medium, and close-up shots, all with one lens, while maintaining high performance. close focusing performance and optimal optics. For example, the Sony 28-60mm f/4-5.6 lens gets a field of view range of 69º to 130º with WACP-C. This lens allows for more dynamic content to be captured per dive without the need for a second camera.
