NASA’s Hubble Telescope captures Jupiter’s Great Red Spot

Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system, has a big Red Spot on it! And the same image was taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. Interestingly, the spot is a large storm that rotates like a tornado and is also the largest known storm in the solar system. If you compare its size with the size of Earth, the storm is 2 times the size of our planet. Announcing the same, the Hubble Telescope tweeted, “Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, seen in this #HubbleClassic image from 1999, has fascinated astronomers for centuries. The spotting. This is a massive storm, spinning like a tornado. It’s the largest known storm in our solar system and nearly twice the size of Earth.”

Notably, the Red Spot is still present in Jupiter’s atmosphere, more than 300 years later. “When 17th-century astronomers first switched their telescopes to Jupiter, they noted a conspicuous red spot on the giant planet. This Great Red Spot is still present in Jupiter’s atmosphere, more than 300 years later. Now I know it was a large storm, spinning like a tornado. However, unlike a low-pressure storm in the Caribbean, the Red Spot rotates counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere, suggesting it is a high-pressure system. The winds inside this Jovian storm reached speeds of about 270 miles per hour,” the Hubble website reported.

The diameter of the Red Spot is 15,400 miles, which is almost twice the size of the whole Earth and one-sixth the diameter of Jupiter itself.

Explaining the reason behind the long duration of the Red Spot, the Hubble site said: “The long duration of the Red Spot may be because Jupiter is primarily a gas planet. It may have layers of liquid but lacks a solid surface. , will drain the storm’s energy, as happens when a hurricane makes landfall. However, the Red Spot sometimes changes shape, size, and shape. its color suddenly.”

Notably, astronomers study weather phenomena on other planets to better understand the climate of Ea.rth. With no solid surface, Jupiter provides astronomers with a laboratory experiment to observe weather phenomena under conditions very different from those common on Earth. This knowledge can also be applied to places in Earth’s atmosphere that lie above the deep oceans, making them more similar to Jupiter’s deep atmosphere.
