Motorola Razr and Razr+ (2024): Specifications, features, price, release date

Cameras have never been Motorola’s strong suit, but the company is making a big deal about its new “Photo Enhancement Engine” exclusive to the Razr+. The company says it “uses AI” to create finer image detail, better dynamic range, improved bokeh, and more advanced noise reduction, all based on uncompressed raw image data. The Razr+ also has a few additional camera features, like Adaptive Stabilization for smoother video, Action Capture for when you’re shooting moving subjects, Long Exposure for light trails, and Super Zoom, which enhances the quality of your zoomed-in photos. I’m not sure how much “AI” has to do with any of these.

There are also two Synthetic AI features: Style Sync and Image Canvas. The former allows you to take a photo of your outfit (or any kind of special pattern) and it will generate four images using that pattern that you can then use as a wallpaper. Magic Canvas allows you to create images through text prompts. These two features are available on both Razrs.

Later in the fall, Motorola will launch “Moto AI,” which the company says is powered by both its internal and Google’s major language models. This will include features like “Catch me up” which will summarize your notification clutter so you can focus on what’s important. The “Notes” feature will allow the phone to start recording immediately, and automatically transcribe and summarize the recording. The “Remember This” feature can then save information on the screen that you can ask the device to view later.

Unfortunately, all this AI power hasn’t helped Motorola improve its software update policy. These new Razr smartphones will only receive three Android OS updates (they launched with Android 14) and four years of security updates.

For comparison, Google and Samsung offer seven year of software update above flagship phone. Longer software support means more features, bug fixes, and security patches.

Included with these new phones is the Moto Tag, a small icon. AirTags-like accessories that support Bluetooth LE and ultra-wideband technology to help locate lost devices. It uses Google’s Find My Device network and will work with any Android phone. However, if used with a Moto smartphone, you can press the multi-function button on the Tag to take photos remotely.
