Mo’Nique issues public apology to DL Hughley’s family for insulting them amid online attack
Mo’Nique and DL Hughley have been talking about a comedy show contract dispute in Detroit for weeks. After Mo called DL out alleging that she was an advertiser for the show, things got personal when the comedian mentioned Hughley’s youngest daughter and wife.
Mo’nique took to the stage for a comedy show in Raleigh, NC on Friday night, where she sent Hughley’s family a public apology for her comments. DL, however, is still on her hit list.
“I want to consider myself a woman of honor. So I’m going to go public with something right now that I’ve done publicly. And when I have a problem, I have to fix it. So I’ll take care of that now before I go any further. To the family of DL Hughley, I would like to publicly apologize if I have hurt anyone’s feelings. I want to publicly apologize to his wife, his children if I hurt their feelings because that was never God’s intention.
Oh but that’s DL n*gga, I mean everything I said. “
Hughley’s eldest daughter, Ryan Nicole Shepard, chatted with her father after Mo’Nique told of her sister’s sexual assault from a family friend, and said “How could DL’s wife possibly sucks the coward,” in an Instagram post.
Shepard sent a text message to Mo’Nique, letting her know that she was provoking her family to “act against her will.”
Hello @therealmoworldwide I’m Ryan Nicole Shepard (DL Hughley and eldest daughter of LaDonna Hughley). Now you have openly respected my mother – whom I loved and cared for so much – and my sister – whom I loved and cared so much for in return from my father – whom I loved, respected and cared for. so many. At this point, I feel like you’re asking my family and myself to act out of character.
Hughley retweeted his daughter’s message with a declaration of familial love. Check out the full exchange below:
