As a first step, OASIM studied the main crash situations involving motorcycles and cars using data from Thailand and Malaysia. This will lead to the determination of the system can to help avoid or prevent an accident, or, to reduce the impact of an accident on the vehicle as well as its occupants or driver.

The project identified test scenarios for inclusion in the ASEAN NCAP 2026 assessment protocol to provide better safety for both cars and motorcycles. In this case, OASIM has determined the specifications that the motorcycle representative target must meet in order to be considered representative from the sensor point of view.

Among the defined criteria are the visual aspect, radar reflectivity and LIDAR detection characteristics. In addition, the target must be able to sustain impact and bounce while not damaging the test vehicle.
