Minnesota police say a 5-year-old was shot and killed by a teenager who took a video on social media
Brooklyn Park Police responded to a home on Florida Avenue around 10:20 p.m. Thursday in response to reports of a child being shot, Police said in a statement on Facebook on Friday.
“Officers attempted to provide first aid but the child died at the scene,” police said.
Police determined through preliminary investigation that a 13-year-old boy was “with a gun” in the home, police said. “Several other minors were present when they tried to create a social media video.”
It is not yet clear exactly what circumstances led to the shooting, but at some point the teen “fired a gun on the 5-year-old child,” police said, adding that investigators believe the shooting is by accident.
The teen was arrested and is currently being held at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center, police said. The investigation is underway.
