Mike Tyson: “I want to see Errol Spence go up to 154 and fight [Jermell] Charles”

Mike Tyson is a loyal and sincere believer in the best fights of the best.

In both the central moment of his prime and when he was clearly in ninth place, Tyson took on all the players including Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Michael Spinks. While the former undisputed heavyweight didn’t always win, it was his great effort that he believes was lacking in today’s game.

“These people have to want to be immortal,” Tyson told Shannon Sharpe on the Club Shay Shay podcast.

Overall, Tyson has a long list of fights that he hopes will one day come true. Near the top of his list, is a duel between two good friends who currently compete in different weight divisions.

Though Tyson longed for a duel between the two, the two repeatedly shot down that mock match. Currently, 32-year-old Spence Jr is focusing all his energy on winning every world championship title at £147. With both the WBC and IBF belts already in possession, Spence Jr is currently in the midst of grueling training camp as he prepares to take on WBA champion, Yordenis Ugas.

Should Spence Jr win, the Dallas-born player has admitted that a game against Terence Crawford, the division’s WBO champion, would rank high on his priority list. However, even as Spence Jr is trading at 147 pounds, he has hinted at gaining weight as soon as next year.

If Spence Jr really does, trying to make the junior middleweight his new foundation, then facing Charlo will be an interesting, albeit unlikely, match. Currently, both boxers train under the guidance of world famous trainer, Derrick James. Over the years, both Charlo and Spence Jr have spent hours in the ring fighting each other.

Regardless of what Spence Jr ultimately decides, Charlo isn’t worried about a possible confrontation with his good friend on the road. The WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine champion was locked in for a May 14 bout, rematching current WBO 154-pounder Brian Castano.

The two had initially battled out a hugely controversial draw on July 17, 2021. If Charlo succeeds in his bid to become the undisputed champion, he could forgo the world titles. his world and rise in the weight class or, go head-to-head against everyone who challenges him for his undisputed crown.
