miHoYo contributed $65 million to Nuclear Fusion Research

miHoYo, the company behind The Genshin effect and Honkai Impact 3, contributed $65 million to Energy Singularity, a company working on nuclear fusion technology. miHoYo leads the sponsorship round along with other corporations such as NIO Capital. [Thanks, Daniel “ZhugeEx” Ahmad!]

As part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions, a number of companies and governments conduct research on renewable energy. Nuclear fusion reaction is one of those options. While Tokamak devices are not new, small and commercialized versions of the machines could mean more individuals and businesses will have access to clean energy.

The Tokamak device is a machine that uses a magnet to confine plasma particles. This then leads to fusion (and energy), hence nuclear fusion. There are a large number of Tokamak devices in history. France has been building ITER (International Fusion Experimental Reactor), and it will be completed in 2025.

This isn’t the first time miHoYo has donated money to a research organization, and nuclear fusion isn’t its only concern. Ahmad also notedmiHoYo has partnered with Shanghai Jiaotong University’s Ruijin Hospital in 2021. The project focuses on integrating the technology with the human brain to treat conditions like depression.

In 2021, miHoYo earn more than 1 billion dollars in revenue from The Genshin effect. The Genshin effect available on PS4, PS5, Windows PC and mobile devices.
