meta will reduce the price of the premium Quest 2 and Quest Pro headphones, the company announced Friday.
The price of Meta Quest 2 will drop from $499.99 to $429.99, while the price of the higher-end Meta Quest Pro will drop from $1,499.99 to $999.99.
meta lost 13.7 billion USD on the Reality Labs segment by 2022. It’s the business unit responsible for building the company’s ambitious metaverse technologies. Reality Labs generated $727 million in fourth quarter and $2.16 billion in revenue for the whole of 2022 — down from $2.27 billion in 2021 — including Quest headset sales.
Meta Quest Pro 2 was announced in November, but the high price tag puts it out of reach for most consumers. To that place doesn’t seem to be an obvious professional use case either. The lower price could make it more appealing to both audiences.
“Our goal has always been to make hardware affordable for as many people as possible to take advantage of all that VR has to offer,” the company said in a statement. The price changes will begin rolling out on March 5 for Meta Quest 2.
Buyers in the United States and Canada will also see the new price of the Quest Pro on March 5. Its price will drop for the rest of the world on March 15.
