Mercedes Vision concept points the way to an all-electric AMG

Mercedes-AMG has lifted the veil on the first vehicle built on its dedicated performance EV platform. Vision AMG concept is a glittering four-door “coupe” whose design will show a potential Porsche Taycan or Audi RS E-Tron GT’s rival from the three-pointed star.

“AMG is reinventing itself. As was the case with our founding fathers, there has been a great sense of new beginnings here in Affalterbach here for quite some time. good and really set for an electrified future, and we’re,” said Mercedes-AMG CEO Philipp Schiemer of the AMG.EA platform.

The company says the all-electric architecture is being developed entirely in-house. That includes the battery, which some electric vehicle manufacturers buy as bundles from companies like Panasonic. Engines too, avoid buying ready-made parts from companies like Bosch or Yamaha. Described as compact, lightweight and offering “significantly more power” than conventional engines, it is being developed by YASA, a Japanese company. Mercedes-Benz acquired in 2021.

Design-wise, the long wheelbase and upturned tail hint at EQXX vision concept in its profile. The main front is a new headlight design with the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star logo. While there’s no need for a grille, a similar shape to the AMG’s vertical slats, glowing, sits below the front light bar. AMG says the lights can produce a variety of animations.

Some nod with Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 group can be found in concept. The 22-inch wheels are similar to the F1 wheels with green trim and white lettering with Pirelli tyres. The star logo pattern is sprayed all over the sides of the car and exposed carbon fiber elements reminiscent of the team’s livery. The door sills and rear diffuser also feature Petronas teal highlights.

At the rear, an active spoiler deploys to aid aerodynamics. Hidden below, AMG one-up Corvette and Skylines with six circular LED taillights, three on each side. With almost the entire car painted in Alubeam silver, including the side and rear glass, it looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.

“We are now providing the first glimpse of how we are transferring AMG DNA into the all-electric future,” says Schiemer.
