Mercedes Made A Limited Run Maybach designed by Virgil Abloh
Last year, influential fashion designer Virgil Abloh passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. Not long after his death, it is said that the former creative director of luxury goods Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH), worked with Mercedes-Benz on a new concept car. Now, Maybach is preparing to launch a limited edition limousine inspired by Abloh’s work.
In December, it was reported that Abloh had passed away two years after being diagnosed with cancer. A year before his death, Abloh teamed up with Mercedes to create G-Class once. Then, just a few days after his death, the German automaker announced that he also worked on it to create a concept car that was supposed to be Abloh’s vision for Maybach’s future.
Now, Mercedes has announced the third installment of their partnership with Abloh, a limited edition Maybach inspired by last year’s concept car.
And what was the car officially named Maybach by Virgil Abloh turned out to be!
Outside is the first thing you notice, obviously, and it uses the two-tone piano black and “sand color” found on the Project Maybach concept. The rims, as with the concept, are the same sand color but without the chunky off-road tires found on the previous collaboration.
Inside the luxury limousine, there are many more flourishing customs.
The black and beige color scheme continues, with the seats, door trims, steering wheel and center console all wrapped in sand-colored Nappa leather. Thankfully, to make sure you don’t stain the floor with your filthy sneakers, Maybach opted for high-quality, black carpet with sand-colored trim.
Painted window frames, and a special Mercedes-Maybach and the Virgil Abloh logo has been engraved on the piano black background of the center console, rear cushions, headrests and door sills.
As well as all those luxurious decorations, anyone who buys one of the limited edition Maybachs will also get a free gift! Each person will be given a wooden box containing a perfect 1/18 scale replica of the limited edition car, as well as their key being the real thing.
So while it may not be quite as exciting as the Project Maybach idea, but an electric Maybach all-terrain vehicle so nothing can be as great, this is quite a desirable spec.
Sure, most of these cars will ultimately owned by people who never drivebut what a lovely place to have someone else drive you around?
If you want one, you’d better line up quickly like Maybach will only generate 150 of them. And, if you get one, let me know because I want to shake your hand because it has a great taste.
