The crate can be a great addition to your dog’s home by providing a safe and comfortable landing for your dog. Long after the puppy period has passed, and when good behavior and habits are well established, many dogs are content to make it through lazy afternoons in their cages. But then there are the Houdini baby mice, runaway artists who see the crate as a challenge and are anxious to find a way out. I have one of those — and that’s how I found the only escape dog crate I’ve ever come across: the KELIXU Heavy Dog Box.
Escape dog crate: The problem
Our adult rescue dog, Ruby, came to us without any prior kennel training. She also comes to us as a successful prison escape artist. In Ruby’s world, life is an open door. And if it’s not, she’ll make it one.
Screen? Child’s play. Stuck in the laundry room? No problem! (Now it’s a walk-in laundry room.) Large luxury dog kennel? Not suitable for those chompers. One of those fancy wire crates? Yes, wire can be bent.
You guessed it: Ruby needs the ultimate runaway dog-proof crate.
Ruby is a large dog (90 pounds of Bernese Mountain Dog to be exact) and can throw a lot of weight after her escape attempts. Most cribs can’t handle her weight, traction, and teeth. In less than 30 minutes, she was able to destroy each of the two crates we tested earlier: a heavy-duty plastic case and a large wire bucket.
Our main concern for Ruby is safety. Her teeth are a necessary tool for staging escapes, and we don’t want her to injure herself by relying on her favorite hobby. Our second concern was that we needed to be able to get her to her knees once and wanted her to learn to be comfortable in captivity.

Like many escape artist owners, I have spent a considerable amount of time researching escape dog crate options. The KELIXU Heavy Duty Dog Crate It seemed overwhelming to me at first and it looked a bit serious.
But it was the only option large enough for our needs; we wanted to be able to put two big dogs together to try and make Ruby less nervous. And its welded steel bars have met our safety goals. We also like the many options for opening the crate and the trolley wheels for easier mobility. (It is a beast.)
The crate arrived in a (very) large box, but just a piece of cake to assemble. The materials were solid – and when it turned out, Ruby agreed. She knows when she’s met her match and doesn’t stretch to chew through the bars after the first few nibbles with no progress.
The doors have several openings of varying sizes, one perfect for putting toys or food in. While we didn’t use the top opening, I can see its utility if you want to be able to open the crate to make any adjustments to the interior while keeping your dog safe. inside.
After just a few days, Ruby was no longer trying to get out of this crate. It can be as close to the dog crate as possible. I have no qualms leaving her in there unattended. Looks like she’s finally met her right person. (Though the laundry room door still doesn’t stand a chance.)
To be KELIXU Dog Crate Matching other escape artists?
While no crib is 100% escape-proof, we’ve found that KELIXU is a great choice for Ruby. It locked her securely and was stiff enough to withstand a Bernese Mountain Dog weighing up to 90kg.

We use this bed during the colder months when the dogs ride on that soft sherpa mattress and plush three-inch high mattress.
A note of caution: This bed will not be able to withstand a committed hoax machine. For the firmest sleeping position, try a variety of indestructible dog bed.

During the warmer months, the JoicyCo Dog Crate Pad is our favorite cushion for the KELIXU heavy-duty dog crate. This pad fits the crate well and we love the non-slip bottom. We also appreciate that the pad can go through the washer and dryer multiple times without losing its shape.
