McLaren 750S increased power, Artura technology

What happens when you add more power, more technology and more modern styling to a McLaren 720S? You get 750S.

However, it could be a short sale of the 750S. It may look like a massaged 720S, but McLaren says 30% of the components in its new supercar are new or altered.

It will arrive in Australia starting at $585,800 before hitting the road for the coupe, or $654,600 for the Spider.

First, the new car is 30kg lighter than its predecessor in part thanks to light wheels and new carbon seats.

Strength still comes from one 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 enginebut now it makes 552kW And 800Nm. The seven-speed gearbox has a shorter ratio than before and the car is still rear-wheel drive.

Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 2.8 seconds and 200 km/h takes 7.2 seconds.

Along with the engine, the aerodynamic package has been changed compared to the 720S. The active rear spoiler is 20% larger than the front, while the front splitter is longer than before and has a central exhaust (no doubt inspired by the 765LT).

The car’s hydraulically-linked, active suspension has been updated, designed to improve “driving comfort, roll control, steering response and cornering balance” compared to the 720S. Not presure.

The front track is 6mm wider than the front and the steering is quicker. There’s a new power steering pump, but McLaren has used its trusty hydraulic power steering in lieu of more modern electric assist in search of a better feel.

McLaren says the nose lift feature now takes 4 seconds instead of 10 to activate, helping to keep the longer splitter safe on steep driving roads.

Inside, the 720S has the same driver display as the Artura. It features rotary switches on the hood for the engine and suspension modes, designed to be more accessible than the old dashboard-mounted buttons.

The infotainment system has also been updated. It now features Apple CarPlay, updated graphics than before, and an updated camera to make parking easier.

McLaren has also given the driver the option to save media settings and jump directly to them with the touch of a button.
