May 29: Indian sports news of the day

The 22-year-old, who won the Joburg Ladies Open in March, scored rounds of 66, 68 and 67 to hold Britain’s Cara Gainer at Naxhelet Golf Club.

Grant maintained his lead at number nine first with birdies in number three and number nine, before taking on Gainer at number nine behind. Birdies on the 10th and 12th, as well as an important eagle on the 14th put the Swedes back in the pole position, and a falling hit on the 16th put the duo on par before Grant made equal with the last to win the second title with a total of 15 under par.

It was a special day for Gainer, who shot a stunning 8 under 64, the best round of the week, to finish in second.

Maja Stark, who leads the Race to the Costa del Sol in 2022, also shot a lap of 8 under 64 on the final day to secure a T3 finish alongside Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux.

Metraux went on to the second round with 7 under 65 with round 5 under 67 on the third day to finish tied with Stark in third place.

Shubhankar Sharma finished 14th at Dutch Open

India’s Shubhankar Sharma finished the week well, with 18 birdies, with a 14th place Draw at the Dutch Open on the DP World Tour.

Sharma had up to 18 birds in four days. But the Indians also gave away 13 bogeys.

Still, the finish will give Sharma a big boost, as he has missed four cuts in his previous five starts.

After three birdies in the opening round 71, Sharma had six birdies in the second round 71 and six more birdies in the 69th round.

The final round saw two birdies on the previous nine holes but he dropped three bogeys in the first six on the latter nine before closing with an 18th-place birdie for the third time in four days.

With a packed schedule ahead, Sharma will be hoping his bird-making skills will be good even as he works to cut down the condors to improve to 17th on the Race to Dubai leaderboard. .

Two other Indians, Gaganjeet Bhullar (73-74) and SSP Chawrasia (74-77) missed the chance.

Meanwhile, French Dundee player Victor Perez, 29, excelled in his clutch strike and held off Kiwi Ryan Fox in the playoffs to claim his second DP World Tour title.

Perez started his final day of play as a leader but after Fox’s superb performance he got three shots back as he finished 17th.

Fox double bogey in 18th place and Perez hit the penultimate hole and then missed a six foot for birdie. The duo drew and the playoffs were relegated to 18th place overall.

Perez also earned himself a spot at the 150th Open Championship this summer alongside Fox and Pole Adrian Meronk, with the top three players in the top ten not exempt from going to St Andrews.

Meronk finished a shot in the playoffs after 68, a score matching German Marcel Schneider, who finished 11th under.

Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg and England’s Matt Wallace are ten years behind, ahead of two other Swedes in Portugal’s Alexander Björk and Ricardo Gouveia.
