Porsche has not officially announced the launch date of the electric Macan, but the general consensus is it will will be shown next year with a fall 2023 premiere. Unless the Germans increase that timetable, which with the current delays across all Porsche models seems unlikely, here it is. won’t be the only premium European brand with a new electric crossover on the market. Maserati on Tuesday announced the debut of the new Grecale. The compact sports car will debut this summer in three petrol versions, but the Folgore is all-electric (Italian for lightning bolt, pronounced foal-go-ray or there) should follow up next year.
Porsche has remained fairly tight-lipped about the details of its electric Macan replacement, but Maserati is happy to announce the truth to the world. Electricity The Grecale will have a 105 kWh battery pack and will offer standard all-wheel drive (and can have a pair of electric motors) for a total torque of 590 lb-ft. The top-spec gas-powered Grecale Trofeo delivers just 457 lb-ft, so the electric model will likely be seen as the performance and luxury winner in the group.
While Stellantis is currently prepping a bunch of new electric platforms, Grecale avoids any nonsense to the soldier on the old Giorgio platform. It also underpins Alfa’s Stelvio and Giulia, as well as Jeep’s Grand Cherokee. That platform is rumored to be coming soon because it can’t accommodate electric powertrain or PHEV, but it seems Italian engineers have found a way to make it work.
The all-electric Folgore looks as if it shares an entire body with the petrol-powered GT, Modena and Trofeo models. The grille at the front is more concave and partially blocked for an aerodynamic advantage, and the wheels are certainly more aerodynamic on the electric model, but it’s familiar to the Grecales quartet. I like that each model has a badge under the fender windows, and the Folgore uses a distinctive bronze trim.
It is likely that the Folgore will be a bit more expensive than its petrol counterparts. The standard Grecale GT starts at $64,995, but the electric Folgore price has yet to be delivered. If the company has any hope of competing with Porsche in the electric vehicle space, it will need to find a way to stay on top. price under 80,000 or so. That seems like a great point for a car like this.
