According to the country’s government, a man was mauled to death by a lion after he entered its enclosure at a zoo in Ghana.
Security guards on a routine patrol noticed around noon on Sunday that the middle-aged man had climbed over a high net fence and entered a restricted area, where a lioness, lioness and two tiger cubs.
“The intruder was attacked and wounded by one of the lions, in the inner fence of the enclosure,” the forestry commission said in a statement.
It added that the man died from the injuries he sustained during the attack at the Accra zoo in Ghana’s capital.
No animals escaped during the incident and the barn remains safe, the statement said.

The intruder’s motive for entering the enclosure has yet to be determined and authorities have begun an investigation.
Lions are a big attraction at the zoo, where a reinforced mesh fence allows visitors to see the animals up close.
